| Illinois Defensive Coach Leaves After 3-9 Season |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- The turnover continues on Ron Zook's Illinois staff with the departure of defensive coach Curt Mallory. Mallory said Tuesday he is leaving to become defensive coordinator at Akron. He said he took the job after learning he was no longer in the running to become head coach at Central Michigan. Mallory was at Illinois five seasons. The last three he shared defensive coordinator duties with Dan Disch. Last month Illinois hired Vic Koenning to be its new defensive coordinator. Mallory is the sixth assistant to leave Illinois since it closed out a disappointing 3-9 season. Four were fired. They included first-year offensive coordinator Mike Schultz. So far five new coaches have been hired. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
