| U-T & Rocky Ranked Again in AP Boys Basketball Poll |
Two Western Big Six boys basketball teams are back among the state's elite. United Township (9-2) and Rock Island (12-4) were not ranked in last week's AP poll. The Panthers are 10th this week in Class 4A and the Rocks are #10 in 3A. Whitney Young (11-1) retains its #1 ranking in Class 4A. Quincy received one vote for top ten consideration in Class 4A. Peoria Richwoods (12-2) dropped two spots to #5 in Class 3A and Peoria Central (10-2) keeps its hold on #6. Champaign Centennial (15-0) remains the top ranked team in 3A. Peoria Manual (12-4) is still the #1 team in Class 2A, making it three Mid-State Six Conference teams in the state's top ten in three classes. Canton (10-4, 1-4) remains at #10 but is in jeopardy of dropping out after losing to Pekin, a 6-10 team, by double-figures Tuesday night in Mid-Illini Conference play. Brimfield is #2 in Class 1A. The Indians (14-0) received four votes for the top ranking. Springfield Calvary (16-1) received 11 votes for #1 and holds down that ranking again this week. Orion (13-4) of the Olympic Conference remains at #6 in this week's poll. Lewistown received votes for consideration but didn't get into the top ten. |
