| Galesburg Boys Basketball Team Hopes Home Cooking Results in WB6 Victory |
Two boys basketball teams desperately seeking their first win in conference play will try again Friday night at the end of the first half of the Western Big Six season. Galesburg (8-7, 0-3) is back home at Thiel Gymnasium for the first time since since December 5th, a game won by the Silver Streaks against Metamora. A big crowd is expected to be on hand as Galesburg meets Rock Island Alleman. It's Alumni Night, which will include a brief recognition of former coaches and players before the game followed by a reception afterward in the Galesburg High School cafeteria. Galesburg is trying to put a string of wins together following last Saturday's 56-45 non-conference win at Macomb. Victor Davis led the way with a double-double: 16 points and 15 rebounds. Brandon Thompson added 15 points and Chad Thompson had 11. Alleman (4-10, 0-4) beat Dixon last Saturday 62-58 in OT at Don Morris Gym. Tyler Yeocum, a sophomore guard, led Alleman against the Dukes with 20 points. Joining Yeocum in double-figures for the Pioneers were Matt Correthers with 15 points and Keelan Prince with 12. Prince, a 6'6" senior forward, is the team's leading scorer at 14.3 per game, which is good for 5th in the Western Big Six. Yeocum is 7th in the league with 11.4 points per game while Correthers is scoring just under 7 points per game. Galesburg's Victor Davis is second in scoring in the Big Six behind all-stater Chasson Randle of Rock Island. Davis is putting up 19.3 points per game while Randle's averaging 20.7. Brandon Thompson is the Silver Streaks' second-leading scorer with 9.2 points per game followed by Dalton Davis at 9.0. The Pioneers have been blown out in three of their four Big Six games. Alleman played United Township to a seven-point loss (62-55), but Moline held Alleman to 21 points in a 50-21 setback against the Maroons, Quincy beat Alleman by 18 (57-39) and Rock Island defeated the Pioneers by 28 (58-30). Three of the four games were on the road. Galesburg has come up short in its come-from-behind efforts in Big Six play. That was the case at home against Quincy, at Rock Island and at United Township. The Silver Streaks have won eight of their last 10 games against Alleman, including a sweep last season. Friday night's game will be the 84th meeting between the two schools. Galesburg holds a 50-33 advantage in the all-time series. Pregame coverage from John Thiel Gymnasium begins at 7:06 on WGIL AM 1400.
