Martin Luther King Classic at Galesburg High School

The Galesburg Silver Streaks defeated Maine South in their first game at the GHS Martin Luther King Day Classic Saturday, 64-57. Victor Davis led the Streaks with 18 points, while Dalton Davis added 17 in the victory. The boys then rallied to beat Marian Catholic 54-48 in the nightcap. Victor Davis also led the Streaks in Game 2 with 15 points, all coming in the second half, while Brandon Thompson added 14. The Streaks (11-7) finish up the tournament Monday playing Lakes Community at Noon, and Minooka at 6pm. You can hear both games on AM 1400 WGIL.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Galesburg High School varsity girls team could not pull out a victory Saturday against Normal West, losing 76-60. The Streaks (13-9) couldn't hang on to a six-point halftime lead, due mostly to second-half turnovers, but made a record 11 three-point shots on the day. Jessica Howard led the Streaks with 16-points.

The GHS Sophomore team (10-8) lost to Normal West 51-42. Emma Junk led the Streaks with 10 points.

The GHS Freshman team lost Saturday to Rock Island Alleman 61-42. Coach Jay Barshinger's squad is now 4-7 and they play again Monday versus Burlington.

(Marysa Remick led the Tigers with 18 points, while Kelsey Kovacik added 14. Logan Partlow and Haley Maynard scored 8 points each for Mercer County.)

Galesburg High School placed 12th in the 14-team 34th annual Burlington Boys Swimming Invite Saturday. Muscatine High School placed first.
