|Autopsy on Deceased Bears' DE Adams Complete
|GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) -- An autopsy shows Chicago Bears player Gaines Adams had an enlarged heart.
Adams died today at a South Carolina hospital after going into cardiac arrest at his family's home in Greenwood. He was 26. Adams was an All-American defensive end at Clemson and he played in the NFL for Chicago and Tampa Bay.
Greenwood County chief deputy coroner Marcia Kelley-Clark says an enlarged heart is a condition that can often lead to a heart attack. She says relatives were unaware of any medical condition.
Authorities are running toxicology tests, though drug use is not suspected. Results aren't expected for at least two months.
Adams was 6-foot-5 and 258 pounds. He spent three seasons in the NFL, two with the Buccaneers and part of this season with the Bears.
