High School Boys Basketball

Galesburg continued its outstanding play by winning two more games Monday to claim the title at the MLK Classic at John Thiel Gymnasium.

The Silver Streaks finished with a 4-0 record by blowing out Lakes Community 70-43 and Minooka 63-29. Brandon Thompson scored 15 to lead Galesburg in the win against Lakes (7-14) and Victor Davis led the Streaks with 20 in three quarters against Minooka (4-10).

Brandon Thompson, Dalton Davis and Victor Davis were named to the all-tournament team.

Galesburg has now won six straight and seven of their last eight games to improve their record to 13-7.

High School Girls Bowling

Galesburg High School's varsity team struggled Monday in a 2640-2325 dual meet loss at Sterling.

A strong performance by the home team combined with a mediocre performance by Streaks resulted in a 315-pin loss.

Kendra Wiechmann led the Streaks with a solid 569 six-game series, but things dropped off after that. Elisa Custer had 465; Courtney Sargeant, 444; Bekah Merritt, 442; and Christina Sargent, 405.

Sterling had two players break the 600-pin mark. Heather Wolf led the Warriors with 610 and Allyson Howard had 604. Brandy Behrens had 506; Amber Granzow, 473; and Shaylee Baumgart, 447.

Sterling also won the JV #1 match 2308-2015. Brittany Mason led GHS with a 476 three-game series. Taryn Watters had 417. In the four vs. four JV #2 match, GHS won 1428-1338. Katey Wagner led the Streaks with 381.

The Streaks will host United Township on Wednesday at Abbe Lanes in Abingdon. It will be the final "home" competition of the season.

High School Boys Swimming & Diving

Galesburg High School's depth showed Monday as the Streaks won the six-team Rock Island JV Invitational.

United Township finished second and Pekin was third. The Streaks won eight events, including a relays sweep. Ben Whittle won both the 200 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke to lead the way.
