High School Girls Basketball
Western Big Six Conference
Galesburg (14-9, 2-5) beat Rock Island (8-13, 1-7) 61-53 at Thiel Gymnasium to avenge a loss to the Rocks last month. The Silver Streaks came from behind by outscoring Rocky 22-12 in the third quarter to earn the win. Jessica Howard led GHS with 13 points. Shelby Pacheco added 11 and Jamie Johnson 10. Galesburg's sophomore team also won against Rock Island 50-45. The Streaks (10-9, 3-4) got a game-high 18 points from Jessica Lieber.
#3 Moline (22-1, 6-1) hammered Quincy (10-9, 2-5) 61-28.
#4 Rock Island Alleman (16-8, 6-2) defeated United Township (13-9, 5-2) 50-37
Prairieland Conference
Abingdon (15-9) downed BPC/A 52-45. Cordan Jones scored a game-high 23 points for the Commandos and Melissa VonKannon added 17. Kendra Pierce paced the Spartans with 18 points - 16 of those in the second half.
North Fulton won at Elmwood 61-28
South Fulton rolled past Peoria Heights 65-14. Tiffany Churchill scored 16 points and Carly Beebe 13 for the Rebels.
High School Boys Basketball
Southeastern downed North Fulton 55-48
Galesburg (freshmen) beat Burlington 65-53 to improve to 7-7 on the season.
Local College Basketball
Carl Sandburg College men (10-11, 2-4) won at Black Hawk East 81-64. Jo-Paul Jones led five CSC players in double figures with 14 points.
Carl Sandburg College women (4-13, 0-6) lost at Black Hawk East 92-44. Taylor Rice and Gabby Lorton scored 10 points apiece for the Chargers. |
