POSTED 1:45 p-m 1/22/10 Galesburg puts a six-game winning streak on the line Friday night in Western Big Six play at Moline. The Silver Streaks (13-7, 1-3 WB6) haven't lost the Charleston Holiday Tournament's 3rd Place game against Teutopolis (67-59). Galesburg won four straight games and the championship in the MLK Classic at John Thiel Gymnasium last Saturday and Monday. The Silver Streaks have a tough challenge ahead of them against a Moline team that features a defense that gives up just 39.6 points per game. Moline (10-6, 2-2 WB6) has won 19 of the last 20 games against Galesburg, including five straight. The last GHS victory against the Maroons was in first meeting between the teams during the 2006-07 season. The Streaks blew out the Maroons 54-29 at Thiel Gymnasium.
Moline's go-to player is senior guard Thomas Lindauer, who leads the team in scoring (20.2), free throws made (71), free throws attempted (92), three-point baskets (38) and field goals (97). Senior forward Mikel Wismer is next in scoring at 9.4 points per game and leads the Maroons in rebounding (4.6). Wismer is also Moline's top shooter at 59 percent (59-for-100). The Maroons as a team shoot 49 percent, including 36 percent from three-point range (74-for-205).
Galesburg's top scorer and rebounder is Victor Davis at 18 and 10 per game. Brandon Thompson has scored in double figures six of his last seven games and is second on the team at 10.4 points per game. He leads the team in free-throw shooting with 78 percent accuracy (32-of-41) and is second in three-point baskets with 23. Chad Thompson is tops on the team in three-point shooting and is second behind Thomas Lindauer in the Western Big Six with 36 triples.
Galesburg is averaging 60.8 points per game during the six game winning streak and giving up 43.3 on defense. The season averages are 60.4 and 49.5, respectively.
