| Brimfield Boys Basketball Team Climbs to the Top |
POSTED 2:38 p-m 1/26/10 An area high school boys basketball team has ascended to the top in this week's Associated Press poll. Brimfield (20-0) is the new #1 ranked team in Class 1A, moving up one spot to supplant Springfield Calvary (19-2), which is now #3. Salt Fork (18-1) is sandwiched between the Indians and Calvary. Orion (16-5), which lost once last week and had two close calls after that falls five spots to #10. Lewistown gathered three votes for top ten consideration. Peoria Manual begins another week at #1 in Class 2A. The Rams (15-4) received 10 of the 14 votes for the top spot. Chicago Hales Franciscan (16-2) and Winnebego (18-0) received the others and are #2 and #3, respectively, this week. Peoria Richwoods is the new #1 ranked team in Class 3A. The Knights (15-4) replace defending champion Champaign Centennial (18-1), which lost last week and dropped to #3. Chicago North Lawndale (15-4) stays put at #2 this week. Western Big Six leader Rock Island (15-4, 5-1 Western Big Six)) is unchanged at #7 in the poll. Waukegan (16-3) is #1 in Class 4A and Chicago Whitney Young (14-3) is #2. New #3 O'Fallon (18-1) and #4 Chicago Foreman (18-2) switched spots in this week's poll. Quincy, which is 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the Western Big Six, received five votes for top ten consideration.
Galesburg (15-7, 2-3 Big Six), which has won eight straight games, will try to knock the Blue Devils down in the conference standings Friday night when the two rivals square off at Blue Devil Gym. |
