|Brimfield, Ridgewood, Knoxville in AP Top 5
|POSTED 3:05 p-m 1/26/10 Another strong week on the hardwood keeps the Brimfield girls basketball team at the top in the Associated Press high school girls basketball poll in Class 1A.
The Lady Indians (22-3) began this week with a game against the 5th ranked team in 1A, Havana (21-4), and beat the Ducks 49-42. Brimfield received seven of the nine votes cast for the top spot. Hinkley Big Rock (20-2) received the others and is ranked #2 again this week. Ridgewood (23-2), which lost to Princeville in the championship game of the Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament, dropped one spot to #4. Tied with Havana at #5 is Knoxville (22-6), which blew out Peoria Heights Monday night in a Prairieland Conference game. Princeville received six votes for top ten consideration and Annawan got two.
Rock Island Alleman (17-9, 6-2 Western Big Six) drops one spot to #5 in Class 2A after losing to Peoria Central (53-49) last weekend in the Galesburg Winter Classic. The Pioneers bounced back later that day with a win against Morton. Bloomington Central Catholic (22-0) remains the #1 ranked team in Class 2A. Monmouth-Roseville (17-5) received one vote for consideration into the top ten.
Peoria Richwoods (15-4) holds down the #8 spot in Class 3A. Lombard Montini remains the top-ranked team in the poll and Springfield (20-1) is #2. Peoria Notre Dame and Geneseo received votes for top ten consideration.
Moline (23-1), the Western Big Six leader, is ranked #3 again in this week's Class 4A poll behind #2 Chicago Whitney Young (17-0) and #1 Bolingbrook (15-1).
