Gamecocks Deal #1 Kentucky First Loss
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- There's bedlam in Columbia as South Carolina has knocked off the last remaining major undefeated major men's college basketball team.

Devan Downey scored 30 points and South Carolina handed the Kentucky Wildcats their first loss of the season, 68-62.

The Wildcats moved to the top of the college rankings this week for the first time since 2003. Not even the advice of nation's First Fan, President Barack Obama, who earlier in a conference call urged Kentucky to keep their focus, helped.

Neither the president nor Kentucky counted on Downey, the SEC's leading scorer, to break the 30-point mark for the fourth time in six league games for South Carolina.

The Gamecocks had lost all seven previous games they'd played against No. 1-ranked teams.

DeMarcus Cousins matched his career best of 27 points to lead Kentucky, the nation's last unbeaten team.
