High School Girls Basketball

Galesburg High School won its third straight Western Big Six game and avenged an earlier loss at United Township.

The Silver Streaks (16-10, 3-5 WB6) beat the Panthers (14-11, 5-3) 67-59. Galesburg hit 12 three-point baskets in the game, nine of them in the first half in building a 31-27 lead at the intermission.

Jessica Howard hit five three-point shots and shared team scoring honors with Tai Peachey with 17 points. The Silver Streaks lost earlier this season against the Panthers at John Thiel Gym and have now beaten Quincy, Rock Island and U-T in second round conference games after losing to those teams in the first round of the schedule.

Galesburg's sophomore team lost to United Township 53-47. Jessica Lieber led GHS with 16 points.

The Streak freshman team (5-10) lost to Geneseo 44-42. Chelsey Howard scored 10 points in a losing cause.

ELSEWHERE:

Abingdon cruised past Peoria Heights 51-8

Brimfield beat Rowva 75-29

Monmouth-Roseville stopped Farmington 65-49. Rebecca Gillen led the Titans with 20 points. Rachel Stobaugh scored a game-high 24 for the Farmers.

United downed West Central 57-29. Augusta Chandler and Mollie Murdock scored 16 points apiece for the Red Storm. Brittany Simpson led the Heat with 16 points.

Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon lost to Hamilton West Hancock 78-46

East Peoria beat Lewistown 45-37

Canton downed North Fulton 69-52

Macomb defeated Orion 46-38

Princeville downed Peoria Christian 55-38

Annawan beat Henry 75-34

South Fulton toppled Elmwood 62-35


Local College Basketball

Carl Sandburg College's men's team lost at Illinois Valley College 81-60. The Chargers (10-13, 2-5 Arrowhead Conference) trailed 33-15 at the half. Jeremy Sewell led Sandburg with 16 points. Isiah Cunningham and D.T. Thornton chipped in with 15 points apiece.


Carl Sandburg College's women's team lost at IVC 64-28. CSC trailed 30-10 at the half. Michelle Storm led the Chargers (4-15, 0-7 Arrowhead Conference) with 7 points.


High School Girls Bowling

Galesburg High School's varsity team won at Kewanee 2186-2085.

Courtney Sargeant led the Streaks with a 504 three-game series and a high game of 172.

The GHS junior varsity team made it a sweep, beating the Boilermakers 2175-1983. Christina Sargeant rolled a 422 three-game series to lead the Silver Streaks. Brittany Mason had Galesburg's high game with a 172.
