Shanahan to Coach Redskins
WASHINGTON (AP) -- An official within the NFL tells The Associated Press that Mike Shanahan has agreed to become the Washington Redskins coach.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity Tuesday night because the team was not commenting on its coaching search.

The Redskins announced they would hold a news conference Wednesday, although they did not say why.

Shanahan will be Washington's seventh coach since Dan Snyder bought the team in 1999. The Redskins fired Jim Zorn on Monday after a 4-12 season. Shanahan won two Super Bowls in 14 seasons with the Denver Broncos but he was fired a year ago after they missed the playoffs for the third straight season.

The Denver Post first reported the agreement between Shanahan and the Redskins on its Web site.
