| Several Area High School Girls Basketball Teams in Latest AP State Poll |
Four high school girls basketball teams from the area hold down four of the top seven spots in latest Associated Press state rankings.
Knoxville, despite a four-game losing streak before the poll was released, moved up to #2 in Class 1A. The Blue Bullets (17-6) lost three games to bigger schools in the Peoria Woodruff Tournament and moved up three spots. Brimfield actually dropped a spot to #3 despite finishing as the runner-up for the second straight year in the State Farm Holiday Classic in the 1A/2A bracket to the #1 ranked team in 2A, Bloomington Central Catholic. The Lady Indians, who received one vote for the #1 spot, improved their record to 16-3 with a 37-31 win against Knoxville Monday night at Jensen Gymnasium. Ridgewood moved to #5 in this week's poll. The Spartans are 16-1. Annawan, at 10-5, dropped three spots to #7. South Fulton received votes for top ten consideration but didn't make it into the latest poll.
Teutopolis, which is undefeated at 13-0 after beating previously unbeaten Charleston (17-1) in the championship game of the Charleston Holiday Tournament, went from unranked to #2 in the Class 2A poll. The Lady Shoes received one vote for the top spot. Rock Island Alleman of the Western Big Six is #3, down a spot from last week. The Pioneers are 12-6. Both Canton and Monmouth-Roseville received votes for top ten consideration.
Peoria Richwoods is the highest ranked team from the area in the Class 4A poll. The Knights dropped a notch from #3 to #4 this week. Richwoods is 10-4 on the season. Galesburg received two votes while Geneseo and Peoria Central each received one for top ten consideration.
Moline is ranked #3 in Class 4A, up one spot from last week. The Maroons at 17-1 picked up a holiday tournament championship after losing their first conference gam against United Township last month at Wharton Fieldhouse after 23 consecutive wins. |
