Local Sports Roundup -- 1/7/10
The weather resulted in several sports-related cancellations and postponements, but it didn't completely wipe out the schedule.

High School Girls Basketball

State-ranked Moline's big second quarter led the Maroons past Galesburg High School at Thiel Gymnasium in Western Big Six play.

Moline, ranked #3 in Class 4A in this week's Associated Press poll, outscored the Silver Streaks 25-6 in the second period after the teams played to an 18-all tie in the first quarter to go up 43-24 at half-time and cruise to an 83-61 victory.

The Maroons got a game-high 26 points from Emily Kuzlarich, one of three Moline players to score in double-figures. Galesburg was led by Shelby Pacheco with 16 points.

Moline improves its record to 18-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big Six. Galesburg falls to 0-5 in league play and 11-8 overall.

The Maroons held off a second-half Galesburg rally to win the sophomore game 62-59. The Silver Streaks battled back from an eight point half-time deficit to tie the game at 46 at the end of the third quarter, but the Maroons outscored GHS 16-13 in the final stanza.

Jessica Lieber led GHS with a game-high 22 points. Galesburg falls to 7-8 overall and 1-4 in Big Six play with the loss.

High School Boys Basketball

Moline defeated Galesburg in freshman boys basketball 49-36. Travon Diggins led the Silver Streaks (4-5) with 12 points.
