The weather resulted in several sports-related cancellations and postponements, but it didn't completely wipe out the schedule.
High School Girls Basketball
State-ranked Moline's big second quarter led the Maroons past Galesburg High School at Thiel Gymnasium in Western Big Six play. Moline, ranked #3 in Class 4A in this week's Associated Press poll, outscored the Silver Streaks 25-6 in the second period after the teams played to an 18-all tie in the first quarter to go up 43-24 at half-time and cruise to an 83-61 victory. The Maroons got a game-high 26 points from Emily Kuzlarich, one of three Moline players to score in double-figures. Galesburg was led by Shelby Pacheco with 16 points. Moline improves its record to 18-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big Six. Galesburg falls to 0-5 in league play and 11-8 overall. The Maroons held off a second-half Galesburg rally to win the sophomore game 62-59. The Silver Streaks battled back from an eight point half-time deficit to tie the game at 46 at the end of the third quarter, but the Maroons outscored GHS 16-13 in the final stanza.
Jessica Lieber led GHS with a game-high 22 points. Galesburg falls to 7-8 overall and 1-4 in Big Six play with the loss.

High School Boys Basketball
Moline defeated Galesburg in freshman boys basketball 49-36. Travon Diggins led the Silver Streaks (4-5) with 12 points.
Friday night's Abingdon/Farmington varsity boys basketball game will be televised. The game will be carried on the local Mediacom information station, which is channel 78. |
