|HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL
The GHS Silver Streaks recovered from a Western Big Six conference loss against Moline Thursday night, with a non-conference victory Saturday at Chicago Queen of Peace 87-58. Mickey Rodriguez's 15 points, all from the three-point line, led the Streaks. Megan Young and Shelby Pacheco added 11 points a piece, while Maddy Boyer contributed 10. Coach Evan Massey's squad is now 12-8 overall. The GHS Sophomores also dominated Queen of Peace 61-35.
Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon defeated ROWVA 68-40. Bridget Blout led the Lady Spartans with 24 points, while Kendra Pierce added 21 in the victory. Britta Johnson was the top scorer for the Lady Tigers with 15. ROWVA's J/V squad overpowered B-PC/A 51-31.
United defeated Farmington in conference play Saturday 49-43.
Knoxville defeated LeRoy 56-32.
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL
The Galesburg Silver Streaks are now above .500 on the season, after defeating Macomb on their home court 56-45. The Streaks were led by Victor Davis' 16 points, while Brandon Thompson added 15. Seth Wickert led Macomb with 17 points. The Streaks are now 8-7 overall and return to Western Big Six Conference play Friday versus Alleman. Pregame coverage begins at 7:06pm on WGIL AM 1400. The GHS Sophomores lost to Macomb 50-29.
Monmouth-Roseville got past Warrenburg Latham in the Kessler's Shootout at Tolono 57-51.
The GHS Freshman Boys Basketball team is now at 6-5 on the season, after placing first in the Burlington Tournament. The Streaks beat Fairfield Saturday 52-24, then Mount Pleasant 60-46.
HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING AND DIVING
The GHS Boys Swimmning and Diving Team lost to Richwoods at home in a dual meet by a final score of 96-84. Richard Ladner placed first in the 100 Yard Freeestyle for the Streaks.
HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING
Galesburg High School placed third in the Taylorville Invitational Saturday, 581 pins behind leader Eisenhower with a combined total of 4846. Kendra Weichmann's 526 series led the Streaks, and placed her sixth in individual scoring. Bekah Merritt bowled a 247 in her first game. The GHS J/V Squad defeated Bloomington at Taylorville 653-273.
LOCAL WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Monmouth (5-5, 0-3) couldn't quite get over the hump in the second half of an 85-74 loss to Dominican University. The teams traded the lead nine time - eight in the first half - but once Dominican took the lead on a three-pointer in the first two minutes of the second half, the Scots were unable to break through. Colleen Forrest's trey in the final seconds of the first half gave Monmouth a 37-36 lead heading into the locker rooms. After Dominican scored on their first possession of the second half to regain the lead, Alison Andrews answered with a jumper to give the Scots the lead for the final time in the game. Leading by two with just over two minutes to go, Dominican converted six of seven free throws to ice the game. Andrews led Monmouth's scoring with 21 points, Lynsey Barnard added 16 and Forrest 15. Lake Forrest defeated Knox College (5-4, 1-2 MWC) 73-58. Galesburg's Kelly Ricketts led the Prairie Fire with 12 points.
LOCAL MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Lake Forrest defeated the Knox College men (1-9, 1-2 MWC) 69-53.
The Knox College Prairie Fire hosted the 5th Annual Chuck Porter Duals Saturday and after dropping their first three duals in the tournament, defeated Truman State 29-18, led by Junior Edel Vaca's sudden death overtime decision against Ryan Banning in the 133lb. weight class. Vaca won all four of his matches Saturday. Trine University placed first in the tournament, while Loras College placed second.
