A close one in the Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament Saturday night, as the Wethersfield Lady Geese barely got by United 59-58 to take 3rd place in the tournament at ROWVA. Shelby Steger led the Lady Geese in scoring with 16 points, and also in rebounds, assists, and steals. Gina Long's 22 points led the Lady Red Storm. The Geese now play ROWVA Monday. In the Championship game, Annawan defeated Stark County 45-39.

Galesburg MLK/Mid-Winter Girls Classic:

Morton went 5-0 in the Galesburg High School MLK/Mid-Winter Classic, after beating United Township Saturday 43-35, giving them the tournament championship.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks went 4-1 in their Mid-Winter Classic and 20-5 overall after defeating Champaign Centennial Saturday 84-74. Jessica Howard led the Streaks with 19 points, followed by Jamie Johnson's 17. Earlier Saturday, the Streaks defeated Normal U-High 66-56. Howard's 19 points, and Johnson's 13 led the way in victory.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks sophomores defeated Champaign Centennial Saturday 52-37. Sharron Diggins led the Streaks with 23 points. In an earlier game, the Sophomores also defeated Normal U-High 75-52, led by Diggins' 23 points.

Monmouth-Roseville's freshmen defeated GHS 43-26. The GHS Freshmen Girls next play Monday at Peoria Richwoods.


The GHS Silver Streaks got to 20-3 on the season, defeating Rockford East in a non-conference matchup 83-77. Brandon Thompson dominated the game for the Streaks with 30 points. Chad Thompson scored 21. The GHS Sophomores also defeated Rockford East 68-56, thanks to Drew Nall's 21 points and Travon Diggins' 20 points.

Mercer County took top honors in the Bob Mitton Invitational hosted by Orion High School Saturday. Among other area teams, Macomb tied for third with Erie-Prophetstown, Orion came in 7th, Kewanee 10th, Knoxville 16th.


Galesburg placed 3rd at Decatur Eisenhower's Tri Ike Invitational Saturday. The Streaks J/V Squad placed fourth in their division.
