WIU Tips NAIA Purdue-Calumet
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) -- Matt Lander scored 19 points and Kaimarr Price had a double-double as Western Illinois escaped Purdue Calumet 59-56 Saturday night.

Price had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Jack Houpt added 13 points for the Leathernecks (6-7), who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Michael Patton and Andrew Anderson scored 10 points apiece for the NAIA Peregrines (6-8), who had won three straight.

The Peregrines turned a 36-24 deficit into a 41-40 lead on Anderson's basket with 8:59 left. Western Illinois went back ahead, but Kedrick Williams' 3-pointer with 51 seconds left pulled Purdue Calumet into a 56-56 tie.

Lander made three free throws in the final minute, but Western missed five straight foul shots after that, giving the Peregrines a chance. However, Anderson's last-second 3-point attempt missed.

Purdue Calumet outrebounded Western Illinois 42-33 but was outshot 41.2 percent to 36.2 percent.

Lander has reached double figures in every game.
