CLEVELAND (AP) -- Pat Shurmur has been hired to coach the Browns. He's Cleveland's fifth coach since 1999.
Shurmur spent the last two NFL seasons as the Rams' offensive coordinator. The 45-year-old Shurmur was an assistant for 10 years in Philadelphia, where he learned the West Coast offense under Andy Reid, who happens to be a close friend of Browns president Mike Holmgren. Shurmur has no head coaching experience and takes over a team that has made just one playoff appearance in 13 years.
