| Illinois Adds Assistance Football Coaches |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois football coach Tim Beckman confirmed Friday that LSU assistant coach Billy Gonzales will share offensive coordinator duties for the Illini and that two more assistants have been hired.
Beckman said in a news release Friday that Gonzales will share coordinator duties with the previously hired Chris Beatty. LSU confirmed earlier this week Gonzales was leaving for Illinois.
Beckman said Friday that he's also hired Steve Clinksdale from Toledo and Tim Salem from Central. Florida.
Salem will coach Illinois' running backs. Beckman didn't say what Clinksdale's job will be but he coached the Rockets' secondary.
Beckman still must hire a defensive coordinator to fill out his staff.
Illinois hired Beckman late last year to replace the fired Ron Zook.
