| Illini Rebound with OSU Upset, Now Ready for Break |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- After a bad New Year's Eve loss to Purdue the sky appeared to be falling in on Illinois basketball. But after a 79-74 upset of No. 5 Ohio State things are looking up. Illinois (15-3, 4-1 Big Ten) beat the Buckeyes Tuesday and now gets a break until travel to Penn State on Jan. 19. Coach Bruce Weber says the break could be big. The Illini are trying to get injured point guard Sam Maniscalco back in the lineup. Center Meyers Leonard says the Ohio State win could be a turning point after the Purdue loss and some close wins in which Illinois fans booed their team. No one might be bigger in a turnaround than Brandon Paul. The junior scored 43 against the Buckeyes.
