The Knox and Monmouth College men's and women's basketball teams face Midwest Conference road trips this evening. Knox will travel to Mt. Vernon, Iowa to play the Cornell Rams. Cornell's womens team leads the league with a record of 10-1, while the Prairie Fire enter the game with a mark of 4-6. The Knox men's team is still looking for it's second win of the season, with an overall mark of 1-14. Monmouth also has a tough assignment in the men's game, facing the high-scoring Pioneers who 8-3 in conference play, while Monmouth enters at 3-8. The Fighting Scots women figure to have a better chance to bring home a win, as they are 13-3 overall this season.
High School Girls
A mostly quiet night on the local high school schedule finds just a couple of girls basketball games in the area. In Galva, the state's second-ranked team in class 1A--the Annawan Braves--will be in town. And at United, the Red Storm girls will play host to Mercer County.
High School Poll
This week's high school basketball polls are out, and the class 4A girls poll has Rock Island and Peoria Richwoods tied for the #6 spot. The Galesburg girls will play at Rocky tomorrow night. Other notable teams in the ratings include Morton, which moved up two spots to # 6 in class 3A, after winning the Galesburg Martin Luther King Tournament on Monday. The boys ratings show Rockridge at #4 and Monmouth-Roseville at #10 in the 2A poll, while Kewanee Wethersfield is #8 in the 1A poll. Wethersfield scored early and often last night in trouncing Ridgewood 100-64.
