High School Boys Basketball
Western Big Six Conference
Galesburg (18-10, 3-6) won a thriller at Rock Island Alleman (5-19, 0-10) 50-49. Brandon Thompson's rebound put-back off of a missed free-throw by Chad Thompson at the buzzer gave the Silver Streaks the victory. Victor Davis led Galesburg with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Chad Thompson connected on three 3-point baskets and scored 11 for the Streaks, who wrap up Western Big Six play next Friday night at home against Moline.
-The Pioneers' sophomore team beat Galesburg's sophomores (6-16) 54-46 despite a career high 32 point effort by the Streaks' Joey Juergens
Quincy (16-6, 7-2) surprised Rock Island (19-6, 8-2) 57-55 at Blue Devil Gymnasium. Quincy needs to win next week at United Township to share the league title with Rock Island.
Moline (13-9, 5-4) won at East Moline (16-7, 5-4) 63-58. The win was the 100th for Maroons' coach Ryan Webber, who is in his second season at Moline and fifth overall.

Annawan stopped Galva 59-44
Ridgewood beat Princeville 71-64
Wethersfield cruised past Stark County 61-29
All-Western Big Six - Girls Basketball & Wrestling
Galesburg High School's Jessica Howard was named to the All-Western Big Six girls basketball team. She was the only Silver Streak player to achieve either all-conference or honorable mention. Howard was also an all-conference pick last season. Western Big Six champion Moline landed four all-conference selections, league runner-up Alleman had three and United Township, like Galesburg, had one player make the all-conference squad.
Galesburg High School had one wrestler recognized as one of the top performers in Western Big Six. The league named Cole Spinks as an Honorable Mention selection. Moline led all schools with six all-conference wrestlers, Alleman and U-T had three apiece and both Rock Island and Quincy landed two. |
