|Earnhardt Knows One Near-Win Only a Good Start -- NASCAR Sunday on FM 95
|FONTANA, Calif. (AP) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. isn't getting too excited about his late charge to a surprise second-place finish at Daytona.
Sure, Earnhardt enjoyed the ride and the reminder of "what something good feels like." But he knows a near-win one race into the season isn't a sure indication that everything is all right again for the No. 88 team.
Earnhardt goes into Sunday's race at California still looking for his first victory since June 2008. He starts 27th at the two-mile superspeedway.
Jamie McMurray followed his whirlwind week of interviews and appearances as the Daytona 500 champion by qualifying on the pole. Earnhardt Ganassi Racing has both front-row spots with Juan Pablo Montoya starting second.
