| Naperville Wants to Honor Skating Gold Medalist |
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Residents in Evan Lysacek's native Naperville say they want to honor the Olympic figure skating gold medalist.
Naperville Mayor George Pradel says he would host an Evan Lysacek Day in the Chicago suburb and give the skater a key to the city. The mayor says Lysacek has "made us so darn proud."
The mayor also says if Lysacek comes to Naperville, the skater could receive "a police and fire escort to wherever he's going."
Lysacek became the first U.S. man to win the Olympic gold medal since Brian Boitano in 1988, upsetting defending champion Evgeni Plushenko on Thursday night in Vancouver. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
