Williams Sisters to Play Volleyball at CSC
Carl Sandburg College's volleyball team will get two standouts from the area who know a little something about each other.

CSC coach Todd Winkler says Michelle and Stephanie Williams, both seniors at Alwood High School, have committed to play volleyball for the Chargers during the 2010-11 season.

Both of the Williams' played volleyball for the Ridgewood Spartans, a co-op of Alwood High School and Cambridge High School, this past season. The Williams sisters are currently playing basketball for the Spartans, who will play defending Class 1A champion Hinckley-Big Rock (31-2) at 2 p.m. Friday in Normal in the state semifinals.

Michelle Williams had 96 kills, 42 digs and 25 blocks in the 2009 volleyball season and was selected as a member of the Lincoln Trail Conference All-Conference second team.

"In my opinion, Michelle has the best court awareness I have seen in a long time. She has a great feel for the court," Winkler said. "I feel in our system that she will become an impact player very soon."

Stephanie Williams had 131 kills, 307 assists and 166 blocks in the 2009 season. She holds the school record for assists in a season (296) and the most aces in a game (8). She was selected as a member of the Lincoln Trail Conference All-Conference first team.

"As I have observed, Stephanie has a God-given talent for setting," Winkler said. "She is one of the best setters/hitters out there but I know she has much more potential stored up that I will try to bring out."
