|Rock Island #6, Brimfield #4 in AP Boys Basketball Poll
|POSTED 11:07 a-m 2/24/10 The Western Big Six Conference's lone representative in the Associated Press High School Boys Basketball Top 10 Poll remains in the same spot as last week.
Rock Island (19-6), which lost to Quincy last Friday night in a game that would have clinched the conference title for the Rocks with a win, are again at #6 in Class 3A this week. The Rocks are the top seed in next week's Geneseo Regional. Peoria Richwoods (23-2), this season's Mid-State Six Conference champion, stays put at #1 ahead of Champaign Centennial (25-1) and Hillcrest (24-1). Two teams made big leaps: Lincoln (25-3) from #7 to #4 and Chicago Marshall (22-7) to #5 after being unranked last week.
Peoria Manual (19-7) is tied with Winnebgago (26-0) for #2 this week in Class 2A. The Rams will square off against Canton Friday night in the regional championship game on Manual's home floor. Chicago Hales Franciscan (22-2) is #1 in Class 2A again this week.
Brimfield (28-2) slipped from #3 last week to #4 this week in Class 1A. The Indians play Knoxville Wednesday night in the regional semifinals at Williamsfield. Returning to the poll this week is Orion (24-8), which is #9 after not being ranked last week. The Chargers play Annawan Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Oneida Regional.
The top ranked team in Class 1A is Salt Fork (26-1), followed by Springfield Calvary (27-2) at #2 and Mounds Meridian (22-1) at #3.
