|Weedman, Gillen Among High School Girls Basketball All-State Selections
|Five high school girls basketball players from the area are all-staters.
The Associated Press' Class 1A and 2A all-state girls basketball teams include Knoxville's Hannah Weedman, Monmouth-Roseville's Rebecca Gillen, Brimfield's Paige Spietz, Annawan's Kelly Buresh and Kewanee Wethersfield's Shelby Steger.
Weedman, Spietz and Buresh - centers for their teams - are first-team selections. Gillen and Steger made the second team.
Weedman, who's signed with Evansville University, helped lead Knoxville to a 23-win season. Spietz, who is headed to Mizzou, helped her team reach the state semifinals last season and finish this season with 28 wins. Buresh is now a two-time all-state first-team member. She scored over 2,000 points for the Bravettes, who won a regional and 21 games this season. Buresh is reportedly being recruited by Quincy University.
Gillen, who has committed to St. Ambrose to play volleyball, led the Titans in scoring while Steger was the top scorer for the Flying Geese.
