|Class 1A, 2A High School Girls Basketball Teams Ready for State Finals

The state-bound Ridgewood girls basketball team was the focus of a pep assembly at Cambridge High School Thursday morning.
The Spartans are heading to Normal to play in the Class 1A state finals on Friday. Students and fans gave coach Bryan Brooks' team a big send-off as Ridgewood hopes to win Friday and play for the state championship on Saturday.
Ridgewood's record is 31-2. The Spartans meet defending state champion Hinkley-Big Rock. The Lady Royals also have a 31-2 record. The two teams square off at 2:00 Friday afternoon at Redbird Arena in the second semifinal game.
The first game, which tips off at 12:15 p-m on Friday, features Cowden Herrick/Beecher City (26-4) against Jacksonville Routt (27-6).
The losers play for third place Saturday at 12:15 p-m. The winners meet in the state championship game at 2 p-m
The Class 2A state finals match-ups Friday feature a 30-win team and another team with 29 wins playing opposite of each other.
Top-ranked Bloomington Central Catholic puts its 30-1 record on the line against Kankakee McNamara. The Fightin' Irish, with a 21-9 record, have the most losses among the four state finalists. That game tips off at 6:30 Friday night.
The second game features Quincy Notre Dame, at 29-2, taking on southern Illinois power Nashville. The Hornettes have a 26-5 record. The scheduled tip off is at 8:15 p-m.
Class 1A & 2A:
Four high school girls basketball players from the area are taking part in the Class 1A 3-point showdown preliminary round Thursday in Normal.
The participants are Augusta Chandler of United, Kelsey Herridge of Brimfield, Natalie Turner of Stark County and Erin Ehnle of Princeville.
The Class 2A 3-point showdown preliminary round includes two high school girls basketball players from the area.
Allysa Burd of Farmington and Danielle Thorman of Macomb will try to bring home some hardware for long-range shooting accuracy.
The preliminary round for both classes steps off at 5:00 at Redbird Arena.
Peoria Richwoods and Metamora play in the Class 3A LaSalle Sectional championship game Thursday night. The winner moves on to Monday night's Streator Supersectional to play the winner of the Country Club Hills Sectional, which will be Thornton Fractional North or Hillcrest.
Moline squares off against Edwardsville in the Class 4A Normal West sectional championship game Thursday night. The winner advances to the Bloomington Supersectional at Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center against #1 ranked Bolingbrook or Aurora Waubonsie. Those two teams are playing Thursday in the Oswego Sectional championship game.
