Galesburg Hopes to Send Seniors Off in Style Thursday Night Against Alleman
Galesburg gets another shot at Rock Island Alleman in what should be an electric atmosphere Thursday night at John Thiel Gymnasium.

The Silver Streaks are playing well, having won six of their last eight games - including a stretch of four of their last five and victories in their last two: on the road at United Township and at home against Bloomington. Galesburg tied the state record (Illini Central - 2002) for three-point baskets in a girls basketball game when the Streaks nailed 20 against Bloomington.

Galesburg now owns the national record for three-point shots attempted in a season with 1,219 and is second nationally with 334 three-point baskets behind Stockton, California's 394 treys made in the 2006-07 season. The Streaks are tops in state history for three-point baskets made and attempted.

Alleman enters play with a 19-9 overall record, including a 7-2 mark in Western Big Six play, and ranked #4 in the state in Class 2A. The Pioneers are also playing well with three straight wins and victories in five of their last seven games. The only losses were to Peoria Central (53-49) last month in the Galesburg Winter Classic and against conference leader and #3 ranked (Class 4A) Moline (54-41) on January 14th.

Galesburg lost at Alleman 79-73 in OT in the teams' last meeting in December. The Streaks have since won three straight Big Six games against Quincy, Rock Island and U-T to avenge earlier losses against those schools. The Silver Streaks own a 17-10 record, including a 3-5 mark in league play.

Fans are encouraged to come out for Thursday night's game to wish Streak seniors Maddy Boyer, Shelby Pacheco and Sara Baker well during "Jam the Gym VI." Athletic Director Ralph Henning says Alleman is the 12th state-ranked team Galesburg has played this season, and the number will be 14 by the time the regular season is over.

The Streaks host its own Class 3A regional beginning February 15. Galesburg, the #3 seed, plays #2 seed Geneseo on February 16th at 8 p-m for a spot in the regional title game. The Streaks beat Geneseo in the regional last year before falling to Rock Island.

Pregame coverage for Thursday night's GHS/Alleman game begins at 6:40 p-m on WGIL AM 1400 and online at www.wgil.com.
