It was another exciting game, and unfortunately for Galesburg High School, it was another win for Rock Island Alleman.
The Pioneers (20-9, 8-2), the #4 ranked team in Class 2-A, held off a rally by the Silver Streaks (17-11, 3-6) late in the game and won the Western Big Six Conference showdown 64-62 to complete the season sweep of GHS. Alleman won the previous game 79-73 in OT at Don Morris Gymnasium.
The Silver Streaks cut a five-point deficit to one when Jamie Johnson banked in a three-point shot with 24 seconds left in the game, got fouled on the shot, and made the free-throw to get her team within one at 63-62. Alleman then split a pair of free-throws to give the Pioneers a 64-62 lead. A three-point shot at the buzzer by Galesburg sophomore Paige Klinck rimmed out and Alleman picked up the hard-fought win.
Johnson led the Silver Streaks with 15 points. Senior Sara Baker added 11 while Jessica Howard and Shelby Pacheco scored 10 points apiece. Angie Ledford led four Pioneer players in double-figures with 16 points.
The sophomore game was also a close one that went to Alleman 68-67. The Silver Streaks trailed by seven going into the fourth quarter (49-42) and despite outscoring the Pioneers 25-19, came up a little short. Rebecca Gillen hit the game-winning shot for the Titans. She scored 19 points to lead M-R in scoring. Claire McGuire added 12 points and Lynsey Webber contributed 11.
