Silver Streaks Enjoy Game at United Center; Beat Blue Island Eisenhower --- SEE PHOTOS HERE
UPDATED 7:38 a-m 2/7/10 Galesburg High School's boys basketball team made its trip to Chicago's United Center a positive one by beating Blue Island Eisenhower on Saturday.

The Silver Streaks earned their 17th win of the season (17-9) by beating the Cardinals 52-42. It's the most victories for a GHS boys basketball team since the 1997-98 squad that finished second in the state.

Galesburg got off to a good start, leading 16-8 after the first quarter. Brandon Thompson made the first shot of the game for the Streaks in the 23,000 seat arena that serves as the home to the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks and where NBA legend Michael Jordan for many years graced the floor.

Eisenhower (7-15) scored the first five points of the second quarter to pull within three points (16-13) before the Streaks ended the first half on an 11-4 run to go up by 10 at 27-17.

The Cardinals would not go away, twice cutting Galesburg's lead to three after falling behind by 13 points. Victor Davis responded by quashing those rallies with two different three-point plays that gave the Streaks the momentum back. The Cardinals outscored Galesburg 15-11 in the third quarter to get back into the game and Galesburg put it away by outscoring Eisenhower 14-10 in the final stanza.

Davis led the Silver Streaks with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Thompson added 13 points and eight rebounds. Chad Thompson scored eight of his 10 points in the first half for GHS and yanked down seven boards. Ryan McElmurray and Dalton Davis added seven points apiece. The Silver Streaks were 9-of-13 from the free-throw line going into the fourth quarter and finished 19-of-28 to Eisenhower's 5-of-11 effort. The Cardinals made five three-point baskets, three of those in the third quarter. Galesburg hit three treys, all of them in the first half.

The Streaks are back in action Friday night at home against United Township (15-6, 4-3 WB6) for a key conference game as Galesburg tries to win out and finish at the .500 mark in league play.
