High School Boys Basketball

LTC TOURNAMENT:

Mercer County beat Rowva in the championship game 55-41

Stark County defeated Wethersfield 59-50 for third place

Annawan claimed fifth place with a 60-47 victory over United


IBCA SHOOTOUT - VARNA:

Williamsfield downed Bloomington Cornerstone Christian 53-42

North Fulton lost to Lowpoint-Washburn 62-50


ELSEWHERE:

#1 Brimfield beat Farmington 63-35

Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon downed South Fulton 53-44

Macomb defeated Peoria Christian 69-54

Kewanee edged Morrison 63-62 after Jordan Hart converted a three-point play with four seconds in the game. Hart scored 37 points for the Boilermakers.

Canton beat Limestone 61-57


High School Girls Basketball

Galesburg lost at #8 (Class 4A) New Trier (24-3) 80-66. The Silver Streaks (17-12) got a game-high 17 points from Jessica Howard, who hit five of Galesburg's 10 three-point baskets in the game. Sara Baker added 11 for GHS, which dropped its second game in a row. The Streaks wrap up regular season play at Western Big 6 leader, #3 ranked Moline (25-1) Thursday night at Wharton Field House.

#5 Havana held off Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon 68-57. Kendra Pierce scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Abby Stier added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans.

Kewanee Wethersfield rolled past West Central 55-29. Becca Mahnesmith led three Flying Geese players in double-figure scoring with 14 points.


College Basketball

-Men-

Lawrence University (10-10, 7-6 MWC) beat Knox College 75-67 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Tanner Carlson scored 16 points to lead the Prairie Fire (2-17, 2-10 MWC).

Ripon College (14-5, 9-3 MWC) defeated Monmouth College 91-71. Kevin Fay scored 19 points for the Fighting Scots (5-15, 4-9 MWC) in the road loss.

Carl Sandburg College beat Kishwaukee College 68-66 on a three-point basket by Isiah Cunningham with 1.6 seconds to play. Cunningham scored 14 points for the Chargers (12-13, 3-6 Arrowhead Conference). D.T. Thornton led CSC with 16 points and Jeremy Sewell had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.


-Women-

Knox College rallied from a 14-point first half deficit to win at Lawrence University 54-50. Krystyna Williams paced the Prairie Fire (9-10, 4-8 MWC) with 17 points. The win by Knox kept the Vikings winless in Midwest Conference play (0-13, 2-17 overall).

Ripon College (15-4, 11-1 MWC) beat Monmouth College 79-51. Chelsea Gross came off the bench to lead the Scots (11-9, 6-7 MWC) in scoring with 15 points.


High School Girls Bowling

Galesburg High School's season came to an end in the Rock Island Sectional with a ninth-place finish out of 18 teams. The Silver Streaks bowled well. Coach Joni McGarry says the team had its best games of the season and that it was great to go out on a high note. Kendra Weichmann had the eight-best overall high game with a 232. She bowled a 1,091 six-game series and Elisa Custer finished her six games at 1,013.


High School Wrestling

Two Galesburg High School wrestlers are moving on to the sectional round. Cole Spinks finished second and Eric Spray was third at Saturday's Rock Island Regional. The Silver Streaks placed seventh. Spinks and Spray advance to the Sterling Sectional on Friday.
