| Rocky Moves Up to #5 in AP Boys Class 3A Poll |
POSTED 1:43 p-m 2/10/10 One Western Big Six team is ranked in the latest Associated Press High School Boys Basketball Poll. Rock Island won at Galesburg last Friday night to improve to 17-5 on the season and claim sole possession of first place in the conference standings. That victory helped the Rocks move up two spots to #5 in this week's poll in Class 3A. Rock Island is tied with Westchester St. Joseph (16-5), which moved up four spots this week. Peoria Richwoods (19-2) remains the top-ranked team. Three new teams are in the poll: Springfield Southeast (18-6) at #8, Wheaton Academy (20-1) at #9 and Rich South (17-4) at #10. Springfield High School dropped out and fellow Central State Eight Conference member Lincoln (22-3) fell from #3 to #7 this week. Peoria Manual (17-6) is #2 again this week in Class 2A behind Chicago Hales Franciscan (19-2). Unbeatens Winnebego (22-0) and Fieldcrest (24-0), along with Teutopolis (20-3), round out the top five. Brimfield, still unbeaten at 24-0, spends another week as the #1 ranked team in Class 1A. The only changes in the poll are Delavan (22-4) falling from #5 to #7, Madison (18-6) moving up one spot to #5 and Dwight (21-1) up a notch to #6. Chicago Whitney Young (17-3) remains at #1 in Class 4A. The only change is #9 Rockford Boylan (19-2) and #10 Naperville Neuqua Valley (21-1) switching spots from a week ago. |
