High School Girls Basketball - Regular Season
#2 Moline made short work of Galesburg in the Streaks' regular season finale at Wharton Fieldhouse.
The Maroons (28-1, 9-1) won their third straight Western Big Six championship with a 97-53 victory against Galesburg. Moline jumped out to a 26-8 first quarter lead and led GHS 55-23 at the half in cruising to victory.
Jessica Howard was the only Silver Streak to reach double-figures with 14 points. Marquisha Harris led five Maroons in double figure scoring with 18 points.
Galesburg (17-13, 3-7) enters postseason Tuesday night at 8:00 in their own regional as the #3 seed against Geneseo (#2 seed) on a three-game losing skid. The Streaks beat the Maple Leafs in last season's Rock Island Regional and hope to do the same this season.
The Galesburg High School sophomore team ended the season on a high note by beating Moline 66-65. Jessica Lieber led the Streaks with a game-high 25 points. Mike Rux's squad ends the 2009-10 campaign with a 13-12 record, including a 4-6 mark in Big Six play.
Rock Island, who is also in next week's Class 3A Galesburg Regional, lost to Peoria Central 57-41. Rocky takes on Dixon in Monday night's play-in game at Thiel Gym for the right to advance and meet top seed Sterling Tuesday night at 6:00.
Local College Basketball
Illinois College (10-10, 6-7) beat Monmouth College 92-71. Eric Cogdill led the Fighting Scots (5-16, 4-10) with 13 points.
Monmouth College beat Illinois College 72-65. Lynsey Barnard led four Scots players in double-figures with 20 points. Monmouth improved its record to 12-9 with the win and 7-7 in league play. The Lady Blues fell to 11-9, 6-7 respectively.
Carl Sandburg College gave up a nine-point halftime lead (29-20) and lost at Sauk Valley 52-46 in Arrowhead Conference play. Taylor Rice led CSC with 11 points.
