|Junior's Big Push Comes Up Short, McMurray Wins Daytona 500
|DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- It was a marathon Daytona 500 marred by two stoppages to repair a pesky pothole.
After the pothole was filled and the smoke cleared, Jamie McMurray held off a hard-charging Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a wild two-lap final sprint to win NASCAR's version of the Super Bowl. He's the ninth different winner in the last nine Daytona 500s.
The race was stopped twice and delayed for two hours, 28 minutes because of a pesky pothole that nearly derailed the race. NASCAR struggled to patch the hole, and McMurray finally hit the checkered flag some six hours, 10 minutes after it started.
Earnhardt drove from 10th to second over the final two laps, but was unable to chase down McMurray, who won his fourth career Sprint Cup race.
Greg Biffle ran third, followed by Clint Bowyer and Davie Reutimann.
