HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING AND DIVING
Galesburg High School Swimmer Colton Woolsey had four personal best swims Saturday as part of the IHSA Boys Sectional Meet Saturday hosted by United Township High School. Woolsey placed third in the 200 Freestyle and 7th in the 100 Freestyle, and was part of the 4th place 200 Freestyle Relay Team, and the 3rd place 400 Free Relay. Overall, the Streaks placed fourth at the sectional giving them a birth at state, with United Township the Sectional Champion. Galesburg's Steven Mastin goes on to state individually, placing 5th in Diving.
LOCAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL
The nearly season-long losing streak of the Knox College men's basketball team is finally over. The Prairie Fire (2-21, 1-17 Midwest Conference) defeated rival Monmouth College (3-20, 1-17) Saturday 61-58, thanks to a pair of free throws at the end of the game. Corey Gruber and Austin Andrews poured in 14 points each for the losing Fighting Scots, while Matt Godeke was the leading scorer for Knox with 13.
The Fighting Scots women, meanwhile, defeated Knox College 58-44. Jenny Haskell led the Prairie Fire (6-17, 5-13) with 11 points, while Haley Jones, Marla Willard and Maddie Nieukirk scored 11 each for Monmouth (15-8, 13-5). The Scots move on to the Midwest Conference Semifinals Friday afternoon, taking on St. Norbert. At that game, for the third year, 15 Monmouth College professors received certificates of appreciation, as voted on by the Monmouth College players.
