IHSA Must Move Some Football Championship Games
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois High School Association has announced that the site of the state football championship games will change during odd years starting in 2013.

IHSA said Thursday that the change is necessary because of the expansion of the Big Ten conference. Since 1999 football state final games have been played at Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois in Champaign over Thanksgiving weekend.

But now Big Ten schools like the University of Illinois will have conference games over Thanksgiving weekends starting in 2013. The Illini will play at home during odd years and away during even years, allowing IHSA to hold football championships in Champaign only during even years.

IHSA executive director Marty Hickam says the group will start investigating other sites to hold the games during odd years.
