HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL
Free throws ended up giving Western Big Six Conference Rival United Township the victory over the #7-ranked Galesburg Silver Streaks Friday night, 53-52. United Township senior Nic Hoepfner hit a free-throw with two-tenths of a second left to give the Panthers the victory. Brandon Thompson led the Streaks with 17 points.
The GHS Sophomores were victorious over United Township, 71-46. Drew Nall scored 25-points for GHS, while Kendall Thompson added 14.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL
A close game all the way around, but the Knoxville Blue Bullets girls basketball team came out on top, beating in-county rival Abindgon 29-26 Friday night for the Class 1A Monmouth Regional Championship. A three-point shot by Abingdon's Allyson Cordle with two-seconds left in the game went in and out and couldn't give the Commandos the come-from-behind victory. Katie Houston led the Blue Bullets with 14 points. Cordon "Beep" Jones led Abingdon with 16 points. The Commandos made nine out of ten free-throws, while Knoxville only made one out of four. The Bullets will play Brimfield Monday at 8:10pm at the Varna Sectional at Midland High School. |
