[b[Boys Basketball

As expected, the wintry weather has pushed back the schedule for boys regional basketball games that were to be played Tuesday night. Here in Galesburg, the class 3A regional got started Monday night, with Rock Island Alleman defeating Geneseo 50-41. Alleman moves on the play top-seeded Quincy Notre Dame Wednesday at 6pm. That game will be followed by the Galesburg Silver Streaks post-season opener against the Canton Little Giants. The Streaks have won 5 of their 6 games this month, with the only loss coming on a 3-pointer at the buzzer at Rock Island. We'll have the game Wednesday night at about 7:10 with Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee from John Thiel Gymnasium.

In class 2A, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans were to have played Tremont Tuesday in the Farmington Sectional, but that game has also been moved back to Wednesday. The 24-4 Titans will be heavy favorites against the Turks, who come in with a record of 14-14. The winner will play either Rockridge or Fieldcrest for the title Friday night.

Girls Basketball

The Morton Potters will play at Redbird Arena in Normal this weekend in the class 3A girls state finals. Morton won it's 30th game of the season Monday night by blowing out Kankakee Bishop McNamara 66-40 at the Pontiac Supersectional. University of Illinois recruit Sara Livingston scored 27 points. Next up is two-time defending state champion Quincy Notre Dame. The Raiders have won 51 straight.
