High School Softball
Galesburg got a strong combination of pitching and hitting as the Silver Streaks won their season opener at Orion.
Jessica Davison tossed a complete-game three hitter as the Streaks earned a 5-2 win against the Chargers. Davison struck out four and walked two while allowing two runs.
Stepping up offensively for GHS was Katy VanHootegem, who was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Doni Foreman, Kelsey McKillip and Chelsey Weigand added two hits apiece and each drove in a run for the Silver Streaks.
Galesburg plays at Abingdon Thursday afternoon.
The GHS junior varsity team also won its opener, defeating Orion 9-8.
Chloe Anderson earned the win by going seven innings and striking out nine. Anderson helped her own cause by getting a hit at the plate.
The offensive star for the Streaks was Allison Mangieri. She wrapped out two hits and drove in three runs. Amber Fields and Amanda Kenny each contributed a hit for Galesburg.

The Class 3A and 4A "Elite Eight" fields were reduced to the "Final Four" Tuesday night in eight supersectional games across the state.
Class 3A:
#1 ranked Peoria Manual beat last year's state runner-up Oswego 61-44 in the DeKalb Supersectional at NIU
Hillcrest defeated Chicago Robeson 70-60 in the Chicago (UIC) Supersectional
Chicago Marshall downed Arlington Heights St. Viator 63-51 in the Hoffman Estates Supersectional
Champaign Centennial gets the chance to defend its title thanks to a 80-74 victory against Caholia in the Springfield Supersectional
---> Peoria Richwoods will play the first state semifinal game Friday at 12:15 against Chicago Marshall at Carver Arena. That'll be followed by Hillcrest and defending state champion Champaign Centennial at 1:45.

#1 Waukegan beat Bartlett 75-61 in the Elgin Supersectional
Simeon beat Benet Academy 58-50 in the Hinsdale Supersectional
O'Fallon defeated Joliet Township 53-50 in OT to win the Normal (ISU) Supersectional
