High School Baseball

Galesburg began the new baseball season with a win.

The Silver Streaks scored four runs in the bottom of the 7th inning on no hits to come from behind and defeat LaSalle-Peru 5-4.

Nick Milligan earned the win on the mound for the Streaks, who took advantage of six L-P errors and six hits of their own in the game. Tyler Farrell led the Silver Streaks with two hits at the plate.

Galesburg's junior varsity team shut out Lasalle-Peru 5-0


Abingdon won its season opener against Annawan-Wethersfield .

The Commandos scored all eight of their runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to beat the Titans 8-1.

Jesse Hines dominated on the mound as he went the distance. Hines surrendered just two hits and tied a school record with 14 strikeouts that's also held by Corey Gruber, a pitcher on the Monmouth College baseball team who earned his first collegiate win on the mound earlier this week.

The Commandos wrapped out 10 hits in the game. Brad Siedel had two hits and three RBIs and Matt DeJaynes added a couple of hits and drove in two baserunners.

Jake DeJaeger went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run for Annawan-Wethersfield.


Lewistown lost to Porta in the Indians' season-opener 6-1

High School Softball

Abingdon is off to a good start with two straight wins to open the season.

The Commandos (2-0) scored three runs in the first inning and cruised to a 9-1 win against Annawan-Wethersfield.

Beep Jones earned the win in the circle for Abingdon. Jones surrendered two hits and struck out five batters in her four innings of work.

Sheridan Brown led the offense two hits. Four others drove in runs for Abingdon in the game.
