Cubs Split Squad Loses to A's
PHOENIX (AP) -- Ben Sheets threw four solid innings to lead the Oakland Athletics to a 7-4 win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday in a split-squad game for both teams.

Sheets, who failed to retire a batter while surrendering 10 runs against the Chicago White Sox in his previous start, allowed one earned run on three hits, walking three and striking out four in his longest start of the spring.

Sheets lowered his spring ERA from 31.15 to 17.28.

Cubs left-hander Tom Gorzelanny allowed a pair of unearned runs, walking five and striking out five in 3 2-3 innings.

Cliff Pennington had a pair of hits for Oakland, and Daric Barton walked four times.

Koyie Hill drove in a run for the Cubs.
