|HIGH SCHOOL TRACK
The Galesburg Silver Streak Track teams took top honors Saturday at their own Indoor Track Invitational at Monmouth College. GHS took top honors on the girls side followed by Sherrard, while the boys came in second to United Township. Overall, the Streaks took the "combined" title.
First place finishes for the Streaks came for the boys in the Long Jump (Bailee Ricketts), the Triple Jump, (Drexler Blue), and the 400 Meter Dash (Josh Thomas). Top honors for the girls came in the Triple Jump (Bailey Jackson), the 4X800 Meter Relay (Dorothy Mangieri, Jackie Kennedy, Hanna Hawkins, Kaylin Gehring), the 55 Meter Dash (Sharron Diggins), and the 4X400 Meter Relay (Becca Ladner, Ciera Latta, Hanna Hawkins, Kailey Jackson).
Among other area teams at the meet, on the girls side, Wethersfield placed 7th, Monmouth-Roseville placed 14th, Knoxville placed 18th, and West Central placed 19th. For the boys, Kewanee and Kewanee Wethersfield tied for 6th place, while West Central placed 11th, Knoxville placed 19th, and United placed 20th.
The GHS indoor track season wraps up next weekend.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
The snow and rain kept Galesburg High School from hosting its opening weekend baseball tournament Saturday at Sundberg Field. LaSalle-Peru, Moline, Normal West, Pekin, and Rockford Guilford all were to participate. No word if the games will be made up.
The baseball double-header at Monmouth College for Sunday versus. Milwaukee School of Engineering has been postponed until Sunday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m.
HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Peoria Richwoods missed first place in a heartbreaker Saturday at the IHSA Class 3A state basketball tournament at the Peoria Civic Center. The Knights lost to Hillcrest 58-55 to take second place. Third place went to Chicago Marshall, who got past Champaign Centennial 73-59.
In Class 4A play, the championship went to Chicago Simeon, who beat Chicago Whitney Young 51-36. In the third place game, Waukegan was victorious over O'Fallon 85-78.
