|Galesburg High School Basketball Standout Chooses Illinois Wesleyan
|The heart and soul of Galesburg High School's basketball team this past season will play college basketball at a Division III power that made a deep run earlier this month in the national tournament.
A publication, Prep Bulls-eye, reported Wednesday night that Victor Davis gave a verbal commitment to Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. I-W was one of a number of schools interested in Davis, a 6'5" forward who averaged better than 17 points and 12 rebounds a game this past season for a resurgent Silver Streaks team that won 19 games and was barely ousted by state-ranked Rock Island in the Class 3A Geneseo Regional finals.
Davis played basketball all summer and drew rave reviews from coaches and scouts. His strong play carried over into the 2009-10 season. Davis scored 40 points in Galesburg's first game, a win against Peoria Woodruff. He was a force on the boards and a scoring threat in the paint and on the perimeter.
Illinois Wesleyan wrapped up a successful season with a 23-8 record under fourth year head coach Ron Rose. The Titans earned a spot in the NCAA Division III tournament and posted wins against Central College, Washington University (ranked #1 at the time) and Carthage College before falling to Wisconsin-Stevens Point on the opponent's home floor in the Elite 8.
Davis should be familiar with the Titans' home court, the Shirk Center. He played a game there his junior season while the Streaks were part of the State Farm Holiday Classic.
