High School Baseball
Rockridge held Abingdon to six hits and beat the Commandos 4-1.
Rockridge had just two hits in the game but took advantage of five errors by the Commandos and six walks.
Abingdon (2-2) hurt its cause by leaving nine runners on base. Jesse Hines and Keith Gregory each had two hits for the Commandos and Gregory had the team's only RBI.
The Rockets (2-1) got a solid effort from starting pitcher Kyle Rettig, who earned the win by going the distance, allowing six hits and an unearned run while striking out seven.
Six games are on the schedule Friday during the opening day of the Route 41 baseball series at Abingdon, Bushnell, Lewistown, Oneida and Macomb. Abingdon plays Decatur St. Teresa at 4:30, followed by Hinkley Big Rock and Farmington at 7:00 at Abingdon. Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon takes on Danville Schlarman at 4:30 in Bushnell. Lewistown squares off against Hartsburg-Emden at 4:30 on the Indians' home field. ROWVA meets Champaign Judah Christian at 4:30 in Oneida. Macomb plays Bloomington Central Catholic at 6:00 on the Bombers' home field. The series resumes Saturday with 12 more games in Abingdon, Bushnell and Lewistown.
Galesburg's varsity baseball team is scheduled to play in the Jacksonville Tournament on Friday. The Silver Streaks (1-0), who haven't played in a week, meet Romeoville at 3:00 Friday afternoon and Buffalo Grove at 5:30.
Galesburg meets Metamora and Immaculate Conception tomorrow at 12:30 and 5:30.
High School Softball
Abingdon earned its fifth straight win to open the season with a 9-8 triumph against Rockridge
Local College Results
Monmouth College's baseball team defeated Eureka 5-1. Corey Gruber pitched eight innings with nine strikeouts and picked up his second straight win for the Fighting Scots (3-10). Tom Shaver led the offense with three runs batted in.
The Carl Sandburg College softball team lost a pair of games to Kiswaukee College: 19-0, 6-5
High School Girls Soccer
Galesburg opened the season with a 4-0 road win against East Peoria. The Silver Streaks got goals from Olivia Anderson (two), Sarah Nelson and Tai Peachey. Sarah Katchen recorded seven saves in goal. |
