| Season Recap: Weber Admits Illini Shortcomings |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Almost a month has passed since Illinois found it wouldn't be playing in the NCAA tournament, but Illini coach Bruce Weber is still convinced his team should have been in the field. Weber told reporters Wednesday that the 21-15 Illini played and sometimes beat tougher opponents than some tournament teams. He mentioned Final Four team Michigan State in particular. Illinois beat the Spartans late in the season. But Weber acknowledges his team's shortcomings. He says the Illini badly need to improve their toughness and defense before next season. Those are the two strengths Weber believes Final Four squads Michigan State, Butler, West Virginia and Duke have in common. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
