ST. LOUIS (AP) --Josh Young hit a 10-footer with 1 second left to give Drake a 63-61 victory over Southern Illinois in a first-round matchup at the Missouri Valley Conference tournament Thursday night.

Ryan Wedel scored 19 points to pace the eighth-seeded Bulldogs (14-18), who will face top-seeed Northern Iowa (25-4) in a quarterfinal Friday. Young had 14 points, and Craig Stanley and Adam Templeton added 11 apiece.

Carlton Fay led the ninth-seeded Salukis (15-15) with 14 points. John Freeman scored 12, and Gene Teague had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The teams were separated by no more than two points for the final 4:54. Teague tied it 61-61 with 34 seconds left before Young hit the winner.

The Bulldogs' big advantage came from 3-point range. They made 10 of 25 (40.0 percent) to 1 of 9 (11.1 percent) for the Salukis.
