SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Seventh-seeded Western Illinois posted a season high for points, stunning second-seed Oakland University 68-57 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the women's Summit League basketball tournament.
Western Illinois (11-19) came into the game averaging 49 points and having lost four of its last five games. It had 31 at the half and trailed Oakland (17-12) by one.
The Leathernecks held the Grizzlies, who had won six straight games by double figures, to just 25 points in the second half.
Oakland went 7 minutes without a field goal in the second half. Hanna Reising ended the drought with a 3-pointer with 11:14 to play to pull the Golden Grizzlies within one at 42-41.
But Western Illinois quickly rebuilt a 10-point lead.
Anne Borgertpoepping led the Leathernecks with 20 points. Jordan O'Brien had 15 points and Anneloes Kodde 13.
