HIGH SCHOOL TRACK

Galesburg High School senior Luke Junk broke a meet record Saturday in the 800 meter run at the University High Invitational in Bloomington. Junk's time of 1:59.87 in the event bested the previous record of 1:59.95, which was set last year. Will Remmes placed third in the 800 meter run for the Silver Streaks while Martin McNamara placed sixth. Galesburg had several of top finishers in the meet: Bailee Ricketts in the high jump, Amy Blucker and Myra Diggins placed first and second, respectively, in the girls long jump, Josh Thomas in the 55 meter hurdles and the 400 meter dash and the GHS boys 4X400 meter relay team.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lombard Montini won the IHSA Class 3A girls state basketball championship Saturday at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena in Normal, defeating Hillcrest 64-53. Springfield beat Oswego 65-41 to take third place.

Bolingbrook won the state championship for the second straight season in Class 4A against Chicago Whitney Young, 60-50. Fenwick got past Hershey 55-51 to claim third place.

LOCAL COLLEGE TENNIS

Illinois Wesleyan defeated Monmouth College Saturday at Lakeside Tennis Center in Galesburg 7-2. Wesleyan also defeated Quincy University 5-4. The Fighting Scots came back in the third match-up to defeat Quincy University 5-4.

ON THE RADIO SUNDAY

Illinois takes on rival Wisconsin at Assembly Hall in the regular season finale for the Fighting Illini. Illinois beat the Badgers in Madison in the teams' previous meeting. Live pregame coverage begins at 12:30 p-m on AM 1400 WGIL.

NASCAR continues the Sprint Cup Series Sunday with the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has the pole for the race, which you can hear beginning at 11 a-m on FM 95 (94.9 FM).
